Why This Blog?

Welcome!

Come in and make yourself at home. I'm so happy to be able to share my recipes here with you.

I bake mostly cookies, quick breads, muffins and scones -- sometimes pie, sometimes cake, but nothing too fancy. I prefer simple recipes that call for ingredients that I already have in my kitchen.

These are the recipes I will share with you. They come from family and friends, magazine clippings saved through the years, favorite cookbooks, and other blogs.

I'm so glad you came to visit. Enjoy your stay!

New Green Bowl

I would like you to meet my new green bowl. This is it. The one I ordered from Chefs.com

I'm not sure how I feel about it yet. It's the exact same bowl, I know it is. But the green is not the same. It's a little darker. I know, picky, picky... But, I'm disappointed in this. I like it, I do. But it doesn't FEEL the same.

This is Big Brown Bowl. I've been using it since Big Green Bowl bit the dust. I like it and I may just keep using it and let New Green Bowl sit in display on the shelf.

These are the tough decisions in life, folks.

And there's one more thing. I don't know what kind of kitchen karma I've got going on, but today, while mixing the batter for a lovely Sherry Cake, (recipe soon to come) my 25 year old Black and Decker hand mixer took its last breath. Yes, right in mid-beat, it just sputtered and died. The accompanying burnt motor smell told me there was no hope it would come back to life.

No, I will not replace it with a state-of-the-art Cuisinart mixing bowl/stand thing! I am an old-fashioned girl who likes basic kitchen tools. I like to use my hands and some elbow grease when I'm cooking. It feels more like I'm really putting a piece of myself into everything I bake. Call me corny but that is just the way it is.

So....I guess I'll be making a trip to Target soon for a new Black and Decker. My guess is the new one won't last me another 25 years. They don't make 'em like they used to.
